As part of the introduction of the new educational system in 1987, St. John Bosco’s College of Education was granted the opportunity to run Science Education programs. The Department has five major units with four teaching science laboratories for Chemistry, Physics, Biology, and Agricultural Science practical activities. In addition, Physical Education is part of the Department.
The Department of Science aims at producing graduates who will contribute significantly to the national advancement of science education. Another mandate of the Department is to train teachers who will be able to conduct research into the teaching and learning of science and also prescribe solutions to problems related to the Science Education curriculum at the basic levels of the educational system. Our graduates are also expected to provide the needed leadership for the continuous improvement of the Science curriculum and implementation of the curriculum at basic levels of the educational system. What Makes the Department of Science Education Unique in the College is that students are trained to become Science teachers with requisite knowledge and skills in their subject areas. We also produce Science teachers who can integrate technologies in teaching and learning science at the Basic level. The Department is striving to offer an excellent science education to students of all ages and abilities. Our staff are subject specialists and are driven by the desire to ensure that all learners make good progress in every lesson. We have high expectations of our students in terms of behavior, attitude, and effort.
