The Catholic Chaplaincy

St. John Bosco’s College of Education in Navrongo, Ghana, is a Catholic faith-based institution with a vibrant chaplaincy at its core. It was started in 1930 by the Catholic Missionaries of Africa and known as Mary Immaculate Conception Junior Seminary under the supervision of Rev. Fr. Gagnon. The College prioritizes students’ academic excellence, spiritual and moral growth, guided by Don Bosco’s principles of Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness.

Although the College does not ask/force students to convert to Catholicism, the College encourages adherence to the Catholic ethos in order to promote and sustain its enviable values of discipline, moral development, and good character formation.

Consequently, the chaplaincy serves as a spiritual and pastoral support for its students, staff, and the external College community. It provides various religious services, often with a focus on personal development, spiritual growth, and emotional well-being

The Role of the Chaplaincy:

The chaplaincy focuses on nurturing the spiritual and moral well-being of the College community through religious services (such as Masses), various prayer sessions, retreats, spiritual guidance, crisis care, and referrals. It aims to foster a sense of faith, spiritual well-being, and moral development among students and staff.

• Spiritual Guidance: It offers faith-based support to staff and students respecting cultural and spiritual diversity.
• Crisis Care: It addresses the emotional and spiritual needs of staff and students during challenging times.
• Referrals: It connects students and staff to professional counsellors, faith leaders in the student’s or staff’s faith community where appropriate and necessary.
• Affiliation: The chaplaincy is linked with the Catholic Diocese of Navrongo-Bolgatanga and the Universal Catholic Church
